Abdominoplasty (“Tummy Tuck”)

Post-pregnancy and postpartum women who usually suffer from sagging muscles in the abdominal area.

People who lose weight quickly.

People with abdominal hernias.

Risks of performing the operation

Abdominoplasty is associated with a number of risks, such as the following:

Fat embolism

As some of the fat molecules separate from the tissues and enter the venous bloodstream, causing a blockage in the small blood vessels.

partial loss of feeling

It occurs as a result of injury to part of the nerves in the abdominal wall area, and this symptom often disappears spontaneously after the operation.

Before the operation

A meeting is held with a consultant to ensure that the person who wants to perform the operation does not suffer from any diseases that prevent him from performing it, and the doctor informs the patient of the areas from which the skin can be removed.

Certain tests are done, such as: a complete blood count , blood chemistry test , and coagulation tests, and older adults may be asked to have a chest X-ray.

You should consult your doctor about the medications that you should stop taking before surgery, and you should abstain from drinking alcohol for 48 hours, and fast for 8 hours before surgery.

during operation

Tummy tuck surgery takes one to two hours, and is performed as follows:

Completely sterilizing the abdominal area, then making an incision in the lower abdominal wall horizontally passing through the skin to the abdominal muscles.

Use some stitches to strengthen the abdominal muscles, then remove the excess skin.

Suture the subcutaneous layer in a way that ensures homogeneous skin tightening along the abdominal wall area.

Suture the surgical incision using special sutures, and put dressings.

A displaced tube is left inside the incision to drain secretions, fluid and blood residues from the tissues.

Post surgery

The patient stays under observation in the hospital for one night, and the bandages and the draining tube are usually removed one day after the operation, and an elastic belt must be placed on the abdomen for a month.

Subcutaneous hemorrhage may occur after the operation, but it is usually absorbed within a few weeks, and there may be asymmetry in the skin, and it disappears spontaneously after a period of surgery.

Pain relievers can be used as needed, and you should go to the doctor immediately if some symptoms appear, such as: severe pain, high temperature, shortness of breath, purulent secretions from the surgical incision, and bleeding.
