Find out what are the interactions of omeprazole with other medicines

Omeprazole drug interactions with diazepam

degree of interaction

Omeprazole increases diazepam levels and increases its sedative effect. The probability of this interaction is much greater in the elderly. There may be a need to reduce the dose of diazepam, or to consider giving another drug from the benzodiazepines family that does not interact with omeprazole, such as: Lorazepam or Oxazepam.

Omeprazole drug interactions with Phenytoin

degree of interaction

Omeprazole may increase the levels of phenytoin in the blood, and increase the possibility of its side effects. The risk is greater when it comes to high doses of omeprazole (40 mg per day and above). Inform the doctor if abnormal side effects appear, such as: blurring (blurring), changes in vision, changes in behavior, seizures, nausea or shortness of breath.

Omeprazole drug interactions with clarithromycin

Degree of interaction

The simultaneous use of clarithromycin and omeprazole increases the concentration and efficacy of these two drugs. This combination is effective in treating Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
Montelukast drug interactions with omeprazole
degree of interaction

Concomitant use of these two medicines may cause an increase in the blood level of montelukastsodium. Be careful of the possibility of side effects. The doctor will also change the dose as needed.

clozapine drug interactions with omeprazole
degree of interaction

Omeprazole may lower the level and effect of clozapine. Caution should be exercised when combining these drugs and monitoring the patient's response to treatment, especially when adding/discontinuing treatment with omeprazole or when changing the dose of omeprazole.

Riluzole drug interactions with omeprazole
degree of interaction

In vitro studies have shown that omeprazole may inhibit the breakdown of riluzole in the liver, leading to an increase in its level in the blood and an increase in its effect. The clinical significance of this interaction is not yet known, however when these drugs are combined, the patient should be monitored for possible reduction in the effect of riluzole.

Modafinil drug interactions with omeprazole
degree of interaction

Modafinil increases the effect of omeprazole and its side effects. Therefore, the dose of omeprazole may need to be reduced when the two medicines are used together.

Fluvastatin interactions with omeprazole
degree of interaction

Omeprazole inhibits the breakdown of lovastatin in the liver, which leads to an increase in the level of lovastatin in the blood, and as a result, the risk of muscle aches and weakness increases. The combination of these drugs should be avoided.

Ambrisentan drug interactions with omeprazole
degree of interaction

Omeprazole inhibits the breakdown of ambrisentan, and as a result, the potential for side effects of ambrisentan is increased. It is recommended not to combine these drugs together.
